Monsters from the Id

Roman Flügel has been pumping up the volume for years (among other things) - and as his recent work with Jörn Elling Wuttke as Alter Ego (i.e. the Alter Ego remix of Partial Arts' "Trauermusik" and the track below) indicates, he's not about to stop now. Like "Rocker" way back in '04, "Why Not?!" is positively ferocious.

There's a force field on the front lawn, and it's Camberwell Now, the band that drummer Charles Hayward of This Heat formed after the latter project dissolved around '82. This Heat have been rediscovered and lionized lately, particularly since the Out of Cold Storage box set was released on ReR last year - but Camberwell Now haven't received much attention. Nevertheless, the material collected on All's Well (two EPs and an album, recorded throughout the mid-'80s) is on par with anything This Heat released during the band's short lifetime - and that statement is not to be taken lightly. "Speculative Fiction" from 1985's The Ghost Trade LP is something like the band's warped take on disco, but it still retains This Heat's sense of eschatological doom, which looms more and more ominously as the vocal mantras build during the song. All's Well was reissued this year on ReR - highly recommended.
