We got this awesome Chaz Jankel track remixed by the very talented Hercules. The full release with a great edit from Todd Terje is available from Tirk in March.
I used to hate on the Nappy Roots, and I'm sorry for that, cause the past couple years, they've turned out some real good shit. I guess their shit's always been tight, but anybody who has shit in Denver's Twist and Shout free bin deserves a little hate.
For a genre that just renamed itself, is mostly based on lowquality mixtapes, and has few labels to speak of, there's quite an assemblage of uptempo bass purveyors tromping around the internet-- and, I'd have to assume, across the pond as well-- touting themselves as bassline house kids. As long as it doesn't get boring quick, right? I caught whiff of DJ V and Rolla (who run Visualize Records) a few months ago from that crazy divafied rub, Music Takes You Higher. This and that dub are both of the "Bassline Meets 4x4 EP" which you can pick up here. This cut is straight sinister bassline house with a wicked pace and some evil little techtrance highlights to keep it interesting-- and make it stand out from the hundreds of other new bassline tracks in my recent playlists. DJ V and Rolla - Devil
And then there's this uberbanger, a total wrecker, from the immaculate Dexplicit. Ever since Dubz V1 I've been killing to see the man spin a set; was a damn shame I missed his recent gig with our boys T&B in NY, but duty calls you to the middle of a frozen pond sometimes. Word is it was mental (^_) Dexplicit - Kasia RMX
There's a lot of so called "uplifting" female vocals in UK Garage. Not here. And yes. It will probably get yr attention.
We can kill it with some heavy, thunderfucking trance music, the sort to which we all get our rocks off. It's motherfucking BBE! If it's more than ten years old I guess that makes it vintage, huh? Anyway, all this Wiz Kalifa/ Wes Fif /Flo Rida trance rap is making me remember how fierce the roller rink banged in grade school.
Thin White Duke got a pretty good remix of D.A.N.C.E. While I can't really stand to hear those little kid's voices anymore, I can suffer through it for this remix.
This last one's for Nick, cause he couldn't grab any of the jams he wanted from me this past weekend. Well Nick, this one is a jam, certified banger from the Norse God, remixed by Dave Armstrong.
People don't need to read mad long shit when trying to just get some music, ahem.
I am sure mad people have been looking for a version of this to play out that wasn't taken from that mix from a while ago. A great song. Shit's been on the best internet mixes of the past year
These (this?) are great reggae tracks from Eddy Grant. Off his 1979 Walking On Sunshine release. Pretty baller sound. It starts to fuck up a bit with about 1:30 left, but straightens out.
Finally got to setting up a good system for ripping my vinyl collection. So, I'm gonna try to up a bunch of those rips as I do them. Here's a few from the first batch. Let me know how the sound quality is, I haven't noticed any problems, but I'd like to know if I'm doing something wrong.
First up is this house remix from Bowie's updated Fame single that came out in 1990.
egyptian lover- i cry (night after night) dj b-stee- rip it like this the death set- intermission (nine lives the cat mix) low budget- WhachooknowaboutTHIS! blaqstarr- hands up, thumbs down spank rock- blow
I had a huge end of the year throwdown post ready to go a couple weeks ago, forgot about it and didn't post for a while after that. But, I'm back and I got some real hot shit today. A new anthem from Arno Cost , this banging track in the Florida vibes/sexual eruption vein from Ballgreezy, and a new track from the dudes Dyme Def, who I just can't get enough of. Dyme Def is killing it.
So I've been effusively obsessed with this song for a few weeks now, but I've had to sit through that silly video again and again in order to hear it... until now. Sure, the M.I.A. album merited some of the attention it recieved, but as far as I'm concerned Warrior Queen has her beat, simply by virtue of her presence on Skream's "Check It" and this joint:
P.S. - I desperately want to hear the Skream and Kode 9 mixes of this track. Knowing that they exist and not hearing them is vex'n me to no end. (Sorry.) "Help me, somebody!" as the Byrne/Eno track goes.
I'm sure this one has circulated plenty, but damn...
In the midst of finals week here and my 40ish hour day provided me with much time to post some shit up. I know I'm missing some myspace links, so if you have trouble finding what you want to know, leave a comment and I'll try to help you out.
Got this Jahcoozi remix sent to us a little while ago. It's pretty dope. Rustspace.
David's last post and some message board buzz inspired this next segment of tracks. And make sure you check this blog for a great selection of niche mixes.
So much for the fresh and the clean...it's all stale and moldy up in herr 2day. I'm sure these trax will sound dated to some, not dated enough for me. Then again, all I listen to is Cocteau Twins these days. Egad!
Qualifide-Just Being Fooled (Probably my favorite HotFlushing to date, especially when put side by side that heavy, moody, and way boring halfstep the likes of Vaccine are holding over our heads these days.)
Dominik Eulberg-Bionik (Not even sure about that new LP, but this Ebiza '06 jammer is still repping that poppy Teutonic TechHouse that ages too quick, dies, and hovers eternally in dance music's nitrous tanks in the sky.)
And now to the Italian ecstasy drugs after-party...
With respect to T2 and Heartbroken, we've seen a recent surge of interest in the newest strand of dubstep: bassline house, speed garage, etc. Names are worth fuck all tho: Heartbroken is at the top of the UK charts, and its easily the catchiest track to emerge from the dubstep genre and all of its confusingly taxonimized devilspawn. Furthermore, the whole notion of bassline, combined with several other mitigating factors (to be discussed below) truly poses the Wubstep question: what happens (if/)when dubstep breaks in the states?
Now, me and C. Drugula can wax cross-continentally about this shit for days. However, as far as bassline/speed-garage is concerned, the potential is visible far beyond T2, who has become a media-darling in the press lately, giving out countless interviews where he says... well, pretty much nothing. The fact is, dubstep has been brewing for years now, and as the genre itself grows harder and harder to define, the potentiality of a continental breakthrough seems more and more plausible.
The way I see it, there are three factors that are poised to push dubstep into the American charts. First, you have the recent explosion of bassline bangers. I knew this shit was the real deal when about 2 weeks ago some doser outside the Disk Union in Shibuya actually stopped me as I was walking into the store with the question: "Eyo, you rike bass?" "Hai, 'bass' ga daisukine!" I replied. So for 500 yen he hooked me up with the most bootleg bassline mixtape this side of the Pacific. It was an unmarked CD-R in a slimline jewelcase, and the tracks contained averaged at a bitrate of 128 and lower (myspace and bebo rips, I'm presuming). So, all due respect to these artists, I didn't pirate this music off your pages, some poor sod in Tokyo did, and once you start dropping more wax I'll be first in line to cop it. But since most Americans don't have much exposure to bassline/speed-garage beyond Heartbroken, I feel it something of a communal obligation to share these tracks here, just so names beyond T2, names like Jamie Duggan, Jamie Ferguson, TS7, DJ Q, and so on can get into Americans' domespaces. Cherish - Unappreciated (TS7 Bassline Remix) [alt link] Jamie Duggan & TS7 - Dubplate [alt link]
Concurrent with the proliferation of a countless array of this vein of speed garage bangers, we have the word of mouth surrounding the dubstep/bassline raves in Brixton and Sheffield (clubs like FWD>> and those infamous DMZ nights), which, as dubstep grows more and more popular seem to be moving closer and closer to London, as exemplified in the first full out and out dubstep Fabriclive being released this month, hosted by heavy-hitters Caspa & Rusko. You might remember Caspa from his oft-dropped Art of Noise remix... because, well, its completely unforgettable. Art of Noise - Moments of Love (Caspa Remix) [alt link]
On the other side of the spectrum, you've got Ecko and dubstarlets like Kym Myles. What Alice Deejay was to trance Ms. Myles must be to dubstep. Point illustrated:
Finally, in this trifold takeover, there is the necessary cohesion offered to non-clubbing audiophiles in the form of perfect LPs. In the past two months we've gotten the new Burial LP, Untrue, which I think blows his first (which I always found sort of over-rated) out of the water, and the first full Pinch LP, Underwater Dancehall, not to mention the new Benga album due out any day now on Tempa. Yep, any day now.... we wait with good reason:
So, the Boy 8-bit remix of this track is getting blogged to the point of obliterating oversaturation. Sure it's good; definitely simple, as its title might imply. Meanwhile, I've heard next to not shit about this arguably defter, although admittedly less club-friendly, Leif reworking of Archangel. Scope it. Burial - Archangel (Leif Remix) [alt link]
Well, that's it for now, tho there's more where all of this came from, so stay tuned. And if he ever comes out of his cavernous enclave, C. Drugula's got more than me, so ask for him by name!!
Outta San Francisco, super bashment DJ Ross Hogg just finished the Juggling Pop Rocks Mix, and its super fire. Blast this. A nice selection of tracks off some real hot new riddims. My favorite part is the sour diesel riddim.
I'm gonna post someone else's mix for a change. Just got word from Ross Hogg that the "juggling these rocks," I think its called, mix is ready. Now, I'm just trying to find someone who knows something about mastering. So, check back in the next few days for what will definitely be a banging look at what's good outta Jamaica. Crank dat hype machine to find some of the nice blends he's been consistently putting out.
In the mean time, Sal Paradise has been dropping some real nice mixes on fathertonix. Here's the newest one, dude's got some excellent taste in music and knows how to put shit together so it flows all nice. Here is his Blog.

On another note, I just wrote 23 pages in like 10-12 hours, and it's all the bomb, baby!
Kaliber has been putting out some hot techno/electro tracks for a little while now, all named Kaliber #. Not sure who Kaliber is, but these are really good songs.
Our midwest homies Tactic just finished up a tour and dropped this mix and two tracks. Looking forward to working something out with them and Grinnell.

Been getting the hook up on so many saucy new tracks lately, I can't hold this shit back. My avatar may be somewhat remiss in it's presence these days, but I'm here, like a cancer or an aneurysm, waiting. Waiting for the day when I return to your world of free-will and ispeak and bring that fire back to what's raw. Hold your breath and you'll die soon enough.
We all must question how men like Matt Edwards find the time to be so consistently balling on that producing/banging/remixing/label owning tip. You gotta hand it to the bastard; he's been rubbing us off for like 2 years straight with No Sleep.
Same goes for our good friend, James Holden, who- much like Tokyo wonderfreak Gal Sone- just can't seem to get enough. In addition to remixing/producing/schooling and owning Border Community, is now in a new project that might be a band it seems and hit us up with a taste of the moveo
You may not know Vicious, or maybe you do, but if you don't, you will, and if you do, you're still poppin' off. Constantly developing, I always expect greatness from my boy, but this is really something that delivers on a level of mycrosymphonics beyond which I had imagined. Starting off like a simple IDM exercise, this track deftly develops into a suite of strings and bass synths that keeps banging for time immortal. Like AFX and Matthew Dear having a naughty tea party at the Metropolitan Opera, best robots has stuck with my for weeks. Do yourself a favor and check it out, there's something eVil brewing, and it's definitely still pissing.
Great new bmore club from James Nasty and club city recs, making moves. DJ Metric holding it down, mad props for the comp man, I am all over this track.
And ditto with the following, a minimix I am really enjoying if only for banging without sounding like everything else these days... fuck homogeneity in dance music!!
Thanks for all the solid drops, keep them coming. Y'all are disco motherfuckers.
"Hey rocks pop,
We love your blog, thanks for all the great music and such.
Waybe you would be interested in posting our new mix. its called 'We'll House You' and doesnt feature any electro-mosh/ed banger shit whatsoever....we're bringing house back. ZOMBIE DISCO SQUAD - WE'LL HOUSE YOU

As is the norm these days, in no mood to wax fanciful about these tracks, 3/4 of which are out of respect to the poor sod who wanted to listen to that Drexciya jammer I posted last month. Some bonus Abstract Thought for you, my aquatic friend! In truth, I just wanted to share this 6Blocc gem with y'all, which will certainly become a vaunted classic in the ThrowbackStep subgenre. Oh lord....
Dj Phinesse has been turning out tracks like crazy the past couple weeks. A lot of bangers, and you'll have to do some interneting to find them all, too many for one post. Here's a couple of the heaters.
Always nice when R&B artists compete with each other. Here's a pretty nice cover of J-Holiday's track by The Dream. Overall I like the Holiday one better, but the "left right left" part of this cover kills the original.
Greetings, cronies. I've been inundated with mid-term assignments for the past few weeks. But I've managed to make some music in meantime, mostly sample-based arrangements in Ableton - and now I'm going to share them with you...
The first person to identify all the sample sources will be... duly ostracized.
And playing second fiddle to me today is Glasgow's Rustie, whose Jagz the Smack EP is gaining a reputation for causing parties to spontaneously materialize.
Flying Lotus dropped the short but ever-so-sweet LP 1983 on Plug Research last year, and he recently followed it up with the Reset EP, yet another bite-sized appetizer, this time on Warp.
The new Boxcutter LP Glyphic is also pretty saucy. This dude is clearly among the dubstep cognoscenti, but Boxcutter's protean variations on the style have a fluidity that is uniquely his, and it would be a mistake to regard him as a one-trick dub pony. Glyphic is one of the most cogent releases among the slew of high-profile dubstep long-players dropping this fall. (Burial, anyone?) When a skanky bassline alone can no longer hold your interest, you can always count on Boxcutter to avoid such reductive genre formulas.
