Eagerly anticipated remix 12" from Ghostly wunderkid Audion drops today. Heartthrob's hot breath treatment made some waves on the web a few weeks back, now we have two more tracks to slobber over. We're not trying to recuscitate nobody, just maybe get a little tongue action. Make sure to cop it, if only for the Mantap.

How does free jazz end up on TRP? One of three ways: 1) Audion remixes, 2) Domino sends it to us, 3) Count Drugula. Two of these three things went down. Out today, Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid's Tongues is too official. Everyone knows Kieran can lay it down as Four Tet or in Fridge, the press release I got from domino made several references to "explosive riffing," which cracks me up but describes the decidedly "locked-on" nature of these tracks nicely. This is good shit, cop it from Domino and be sure to bump the remix.


Digitalism - Pogo [alt link]

The bedside argument about Digitalism is whether or not they can make a track that ISN'T an epic, and (alternatively) whether it matters. After TVTV leaked, things started to look potentially bleaker. Idealism is a couple months away yet, but when I heard TVTV I cringed: the whole album can't sound like this, Jupiter room retreads? No I have too much faith in everything wonderful about the first three 12"s for that to happen! Idealism has to be better than the Justice LP so that, when all the chips are down, the Germans can rub that shit in France's smug face. But again, it was seeming bleak. Then I caught this second leak, Pogo, and my stomach jumped, but, yeah, in that good way. It may not be profound but damn if this isn't charming and nice, just nice. I don't know who does the vocal, but its not distracting and reminds me vaguely of their Tom Vek remix. Furthermore, it's something fresh and different for the boys from Jupiter: a stomped out love song. Stay tuned in at Kitsune for the day it breaks.

sometimes i forget about that east coast rush hour shit and just decide I need a chicken sandwich at 4:45. itd be a sorry state were it not for good radio (a myth in middle america?). Gcity's Roadblock Radio (rah rah rah roadblok !) and its sister the Street have deployed enough saucy urbanity to beat out old stalwart WFMU on many a late night of recent years, but when it comes to rushhour programming, no one has ever been able to top the Hudson Valley behemoth. Wednesday favorite Maria Levitsky dropped an incredibly fresh set on her show today to distract me from the gridlock. Check her playlists and listen live here. Big ups to her for playing the Artefact track off So Young So Cold, Tigersushi's comp of 77-83 French Underground. This song is so fresh and funky, it sounds as new as any of the current artists on the TS label, but reminds me of a squelchier, more discotequish take on the early A Certain Ratio/ESG sound. Off the same comp, Kas Product's So Young is an off the wall proto-breakcore grunge banger. Seriously, every track on this disc is this good and present sounding. Tasty French new wave treats.

SO for the past few weeks I've been getting very down with Spectral Sound, the dance-floor division of Ann Arbour Michigan's beloved Ghostly International Label, home to James T. Cotton (aka Tadd Mulinix, Dabrye), Matt Dear (aka AUDION). They've put out over 40 facemelting 12"s of grimy retrofucking techno, the kind of chamelous bangers which morph from thinkpieces into clubtrax when you crank up their volume. Flawless stuff, some of the best American electronic around right now. They also have a crazy aesthetic, with a logo that looks like a PacMan ghost and these deisel record sleeves:

These fine vinyls can be purchased at the Ghostly store for very reasonable prices, and the B-Side to Kisses (pictured directly above) can be found in Sunday's post. Most recent from Spectral is a spicy 12" from Finnish technowunder Sami Koivikko, formerly of Apparat's label, Shitkatapult. The last track off Koivikko's Pääjääsä (SCP41) wont flee my dome, and I thought I'd post it FYE. This is a crazy sound: four to the floor house meets the grind of industrial techno, the result is not only catchy but dancable as all fuck, grimey but ethereal jam for raving up to your knees in silt. Shake it like Michigan, baby.
