About my pony, please don't ride it

So, I've been a bit on the AWOL side of things, but that's only because I've made having fun into a full time job (by the by, Saturday's post was mine, I was just one smoked salmon). But I'm here, sorta queer, and lookin' to be the captain of my own parade. Let's get loose. Just like this guy.

By the by, if you are for some reason inclined to download my mix (to be found in the post below), Drugula's Droppings Vol. !, here's the tracklist. I hope to get better at mixing, but I can say this shit is liable to make you feel nice.
The Emperor Machine-Something From The Cox-Dorée Institute
Sunburned Hand of the Man-The 1st Degree
Moondog-Caribea
Can-I Want More
LCD Soundsystem-Someone Great
Pram-Bewitched
Arthur Russell-"Instrumentals" #4
Klang-???
Syzygys-Bossa Nova!
Ennio Morricone-Eva's Holy Dress (Deep Down 3)
Colleen-Your Heart On Your Sleeve
Stephan Mathieu&Ekkehard Ehlers-New Year's Eve
Ennio Morricone-Extra Track (Danger Diabolik Soundtrack)

Raccoo-Oo-Oon (yes, with a name like that, I would stop reading at this point too, but read on, please!) have the dubious distinction of being the best band in Iowa that I've heard. Not that there's much competition, but they've been making solid progress over the years and have become quite the freak force to be reckoned with. I booked them to play in Grinnell last fall with the absolutely awesome Binges (check those bitches out, they're making some far-out shit) and, them being nice boys and all, I walked away with a handful of music and a book of drawings by the awesome Shawn Dreed, who did the above flyer. Also, another dude in the band has a side project called Sword of the Beast, which I think is totally righteous (the name, that is, I haven't actually heard the stuff, though I was promised a tape. Hrmpph! But I just LOVE that movie and Seijun Suzuki). Here's two songs off their Raccoo-Oo-Oon is Night People LP, which represents something of a liminal space in their trajectory, with them gradually relieving themselves of the indie rock tropes to crawl back into the forest.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
heeeee heee heee.
Ha.
Whew.

Anywho, even Sunburned like to have fun and their record No Magic Man is all about fun and scaring the living shit out of little kids. Here are two of the bangers.
Sunburned Hand of the Man-Gather Round [alt link]
Sunburned Hand of the Man-Serpent's Wish

Ruins-Praha in Spring [alt link]
Well, this image is a better description of this song than I could ever give, but basically, imagine Zappa remixing the Galaga theme song. Also, hard as I tried, I could not remember the name of the artist who drew this, but his shit is money. I think his name is mark.

Wolfgang Voigt-Oktoberfest [alt link]
I always like to imagine that if this picture had been taken in Germany, Oktoberfest would be playing in the background instead of the Lil' Jon that probably was playing. Let's Go! Hope you had fun.
