Oh Shit, A Contest

What's up what's up?

If you havent gone and bought Professor Sound and Double L's new mix, Home For Carnival 3, then you are officially no longer welcome on this blog. Just kidding, but seriously, you should get on that paypal with $5 ($7 outside of the US) to ADobson302@aol.com for your copy.

If somehow that $5 is out of your means, then i've got great news for you. Professor Sound was nice enough to send us a couple of copies of the new mix, and now its your chance to win one of them. You just gotta answer two questions:
1st) Who is your favorite soca artist?
2nd) Who is my favorite soca artist? (There is no right answer, but you should guesstimate)

Send me these answers to theserockspop@gmail.com with your mailing address and one of you is getting a copy of the freshest mix around. Sorry international readers, but since shipping would be a bitch, this is only open to U.S. residents.

Yessss

Here are some new tracks from the minimalist electro holleration Minilogue. The Space Ep was released earlier this month and its been rolling through my consciousness for a few evenings now. Finally I'm out from under that oppressive heat wave so I'm taking these tracks down to the river to watch the barges float by in the dark.

Minilogue - Space

Minilogue - Star Command

The new Death is Nothing to Fear EP is solid. It follows the Minilogue well and it comes highly recommended. You can pick it up here along with the first one.

Mikael Stavöstrand - Can You See Through My Eyes?

James t. Cotton - 2 Keys

Last but not least something to move to. Something real from the long lost Black Devil Disco Club and Prins Thomas. Move well.

Black Devil Disco Club - On Just Foot (slide inside) (Prins Thomas Remix)

Did you know that Wayne's World was filmed in just two weeks?

Black Girls Want To Give It Up

To be honest, I never thought much of Numa Pompilius until this year. I mean, yeah, bro was a bit pushy with his polis, but this was motherfucking Rome, people. However, these prior forgivings have evaporated, along with my zest for life as it has been literally sucked out of me in this hellmouth of a month. Yet, I suspect the heat waves and hate waves are receding to the tempered embrace of Autumn and I rejoice. So, here's all the shit I've uploaded in the past month but have been too bummed out/uninspired to post. Looking forward, never back.

Here's one thing to look forward to: on Thursday, September 13 in the year 2007, THE Silver Apples are playing at my house! Only our lord Simeon knows how fortune sprung from this spring, but it's happening doders and you're all invited! Expect more info soon, but here's one the killer bangers (or is it banging killers) released on the superb Bully reissue of 'The Garden' last year to whet y'alls appetite.

Silver Apples-The Lady and the Clown

Sharing the stage that night will be a very special lad and his beloved one-bit processor, rocking that chip harder than an Atari (okay, that's cheesy--sorry). Tristan Perich and his one-bit music project is Arnold Dreyblatt boiled down to bleeps, bloops, and infectious hooks that could rock a club almost as easily as it could a gallery. If Battles were to be boiled down to one person and one bit, this fellow has achieved that feat. Check the madness of his liveshow on da YOUTUBE. Oh, and did I mention that the CD plays itself?

Tristan Perich-Gilgamesh
Well, while we're traipsing around the broke-ass NY electro arena, it's as good of a time as ever to talk about Car Clutch, the diffusive duo of Brendan Fowler of BARR and Ethan Swan. Imagine Excepter staying in that four to the floor and not drinking that tea, imagine Depeche Mode crying, and above all, imagine having sex during a car crash. With these images stored safely in your data bank, you too can envision what a live show by these cool runners is like.

Car Clutch-We Just Passed the Truth

Alrighty, and here's a bunch of other bullshit I haven't managed to post. Godbless you all.

Betty Botox-Conny

Aaron Martin-Darwin (ooooooh, do I like this American. Been getting more and more into solo instrumental incursions and excretions and this boy's mix of stupid-smart melodies and field recordings is making for a fine 6am soundtrack these days. Give patience to this song and you will be blessed--3 minutes of confusing clutter evolving into a point rotation that will make your third eye cry.)

Thomas Fehlman-100 Bäume (If you even remotely like The Field and you haven't picked up Fehlman's Honigpumpe, well, I feel kinda bad for you)

Jackie Mittoo,Bagga Walker,Pablove Black & Devon Russell-After Christmas

Smith N Hack-Falling Stars

Twista feat. Pharrell-Give It Up

Oh man, I been shaking it to this one all morning. One of the few songs where all the remixes are equally as banging as the original, its so hard to decide which one to give to crowd each time you spin, I usually go with my Ice Cream & Cake edit, but there are so many options.

Federico Franchi - Cream (Robbie Rivera Juicey Ibiza Mix)

All The Kid's Love Franchi's Cream (Pop Rawkus Blend)

And here's some heat from the new Mr. Vegas album

Monsters from the Id

Roman Flügel has been pumping up the volume for years (among other things) - and as his recent work with Jörn Elling Wuttke as Alter Ego (i.e. the Alter Ego remix of Partial Arts' "Trauermusik" and the track below) indicates, he's not about to stop now. Like "Rocker" way back in '04, "Why Not?!" is positively ferocious.

Alter Ego - "Why Not?!" [alt link]

There's a force field on the front lawn, and it's Camberwell Now, the band that drummer Charles Hayward of This Heat formed after the latter project dissolved around '82. This Heat have been rediscovered and lionized lately, particularly since the Out of Cold Storage box set was released on ReR last year - but Camberwell Now haven't received much attention. Nevertheless, the material collected on All's Well (two EPs and an album, recorded throughout the mid-'80s) is on par with anything This Heat released during the band's short lifetime - and that statement is not to be taken lightly. "Speculative Fiction" from 1985's The Ghost Trade LP is something like the band's warped take on disco, but it still retains This Heat's sense of eschatological doom, which looms more and more ominously as the vocal mantras build during the song. All's Well was reissued this year on ReR - highly recommended.

Yes, Bang, Thank You.

There has been a lot of good to come out of Iowa over the years; this blog, punk'd and Arthur Russell to name a few things. Russell has gotten props here before (see - is it all over my face?) with good reason. Russell worked all over but most notably in S.F. with Allen Ginsberg and in NYC with the likes of David Byrne. In '79 Russell started going under the alias Dinosaur/Dinosaur L and in '81 Russell and Will Socolov founded the label Sleeping Bag Records to put out the LP 24 -> 24 Music. The LP was reissued on CD earlier this month. The deal with these disco and discreetly experimental jams is that the beat changes every 24 bars (hence the title) with improv grooves overtop. The lineup on 24 was pretty much unchanged from the lineup for Loose Joints (Is It All Over My Face?) including the Ingram brothers rhythm section. Disco straight out of leftfield (direct download zshare m4a, sorry):

Professor Sound and Double L of the G13 Soundsytem got their new Home For Carnival 3 out for sale now. I've already listened to it a grip of times, so I can assure you, it's all heat. "For all the fans and supporters of soca music, supporters of G13 Sound Int'l, people who appreciate Caribbean vibes and culture, and even for the haters- we present to you Home For Carnival 3. As great as the first two mix CDs were, #3 in the series absolutely levels everything in it's path. Big up to the bloggers and everyone who has helped us push our mixes well past Philadelphia and New York City- to so many parts of the world. Soca has got next in terms of world vibes, and G13 Sound Int'l is one of the soundsystems who are ready to make you expand your body and embrace the culture and the Carnival spirit that is we. Big up to Frank at JW Records in Brooklyn and MasterMix out on Church Ave for helping G13 Sound Int'l begin to break ground in New York City. Also big up to Nick Catchdubs for bringing the fiyah with the cover art once again.

From the Tropic of Cancer to the Tropic of Capricorn- this mix goes hard, and contains MORE of the biggest tunes out of the the various Carnivals throughout the Caribbean torn through by Double L & El P. Given that Soca is a very annualized sound, Double L and I put this mix together for a third (and far from final time) to represent the best of Soca over the past few years. Nothing less than the biggest tunes here- right up up up to di time. If you don't know much about it, and are looking to get into Soca- this is a great time to get up on some game with a tight mix (for cheap!).

Hey all, I haven't got much to say, but here's some B-more house and a few jams that I know about only because they're indirectly related to Roman Flügel...

DJ Feelgood & Nardy - "Charm City Hustle" [alt link]

Here's the banger that launched the Rekids label, which I'll definitely be keeping an eye on from now on...

Radio Slave - "My Bleep" [alt link]

I'm a real sucker for Steve Angello's remix of Flügel's "Geht's Noch", although I haven't heard much of his other output (and among the tracks I've heard was a remix of "Enter Sandman" - 'nuff said). On this track, Angello and fellow Swedish House Mafia member Axwell get remixed by Sébastien Léger.

Supermode - "Tell Me Why (Sébastien Léger Remix)" [alt link]

PANGEA REVISITED

Well, here we are: at an arbitrary number that ends with two zeros. 400 posts young, TRP has been on something of a summer hiatus. Not that we haven't had our good weeks, but for the most part we've been busy working, reading, burning, working, and pumping them jams. Meanwhile, we have so much mail coming in I'm two weeks backlogged in the slush. So, we've added two new writers to help pick up for this slack. Doctor Cuts has been dropping bombs like enola gay and seems as fond of Carl Sagan as I am of The Bob Saget, which is funny to me for some reason...

Oh, yeah. That's why...

I've got a solid assortment of new tracks that I have been sitting on all week, and my junk is long past chafing, so its time to do some of that clippin and cleanin!

The new Boys Noize 12" & Down is nice, the A-side reminds me of Airbus Baby, which would be cool except everything on Kitsune/Institubes/Ed Banger has been reminding of fucking Airbus Baby! Guns & Bombs at Hiro last night was sickie but I left ready to go no-rave my way into a quieter corner of hell. Isn't that robot rock shtick finally getting tired? The bonus track shows more diversity, an interesting NRG sort of tune that is hard to finger down, with blippy highs but a scorching Mongoloids style cymbal rip.

Boys Noize - Wisconsin '95
[alt link]

A guy who can do no wrong right now is Kris Menace. Meanwhile, Robbie Williams has seemingly done everything wrong (I mean, I was even rooting for Rudebox, but no one would eat this silly shit)

Right? So lets all praise the dub, because we get to listen to this hot track without the above captured wanker ruining it by going off at the mouth again. In fact, I'm giving you two fly remixes of this because I can't decide which I like more.

Robbie Williams w/ the Pet Shop Boys -
She's Madonna (Kris Menace Dub) [alt link]
She's Madonna (Chris Lake Remix) [alt link]

And these familiar old hooligans should round this one out nicelike. No words necessary.

CrYSTAL CASTLES - Crimewave
[alt link]

Thanks for getting us here, audience. You guys like...taught me how to give again. Now go forth, and form churches of categorical disorder.

399th Post-YUUUAAAA

Got some fresh soca tunes. As Im writing this post Im downloading Professor Sound and Double L's new Home For Carnival 3 mix. I know its gonna be hot and pretty soon we're gonna be sharing some samples of it and pointing you in the direction of where to buy it, which you're gonna have to do when it comes out. But more about that when it happens.

Problem Child - Party Animal [alt link]

Maddzart - We Wredy [alt link]

The homie Cousin Cole just dropped this banger of a remix. As did, Dave Nada and myself.

Soulja Boy - Crank Dat (Cousin Cole Remix) [alt link]

Soulja Boy - Crank Dat (Dave Nada Remix) [alt link]

Soulja Boy - Crank Dat (Pop Rawkus Remix) [alt link]

Here's a bunch of random dance tracks, some older than others. Definitely feeling the Craig David remix and the Electric Dream remix. A lot of garage/2 step in there. I always think calling this music garage sounds funny, when I hear garage I think of pearl jam and 40s or some shit like that.

D.O.N.S. - Big Fun (Dave Spoon Remix) [alt link]

Speakerbox - Time (Wideboys Club Mix) [alt link]

Black Devil Disco Club with The Black Mustang - Constantly No Respect (The Phenomena of The Black Mustang Version) [alt link]

Craig David - 7 Days (Sunship Remix) [alt link]

Giorgio Moroder & Phil Oakey - Together In Electic Dreams (Remixed By Steve Evans) [alt link]

The Original Moroder/Oakley track

Welcome to our new writer, and on with some heat.

I've been listening to a lot of Yello recently and came across this Booka Shade remix of the Kool Aid man song, as I always called it. While this doesnt touch the Krames remix of the same song, its pretty good.

Yello - Oh Yeah oh' six (Booka Shade Remix) [alt link]

Tactic from KC has been releasing a lot of hot tracks lately. Definitely looking forward to hopefully arranging for them and some other people to come to Grinnell in the next few months.

Tactic - Beats Work [alt link]

Crank Dat x Flo-Rida Blend

The Cataracs - Blueberry Afghani (Tactic Remix) [alt link]

Pretty banging Kissy Sell Out remix of Groove Armada.

Groove Armada - Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control) (Kissy Sell Out Remix) [alt link]

Fried, Flipped and Buried

Communication outgoing from locale 502:

Yo blogworld I'm new and hopefully fresh. I'm screaming hello from the top of my lungs, can you hear me? No, then hear this peoples. Birdy Nam Nam is turntablism at its finest. Nam Nam does for turntablism what Brian Wilson did for pop music. Crazy-B, DJ Pone, DJ Need and Lil' Mike make up the set and back in 2002 they won the Technics World Team Championships. There sound is instantly appealing and, well, hear it for yourself:

Back in February I think this track was featured on XLR8R's weekly podcast; nevertheless, I am sending it your way. Cougar is from Madison and they're on a local label called Layered Music. Their sound is a distilled version of godspeed mixed with a mellowed explosions in the sky. Cougar's sound goes well with a bourbon (Makers Mark, I am from Kentucky) and a dash of Lunesta (Sepracor's gets rich, you get slowed.)

And to conclude my first post I think everyone needs to hear this song from Eluvium's latest (and best) album, Copia. Matthew Cooper is Eluvium and he was raised right here in my hometown (Louisville). Eluvium is getting pushed hard at the local record store, Ear-x-tacy, with good reason no doubt. Musically, Cooper is a genius in my book as his songs are aural experiences without compare. He has a tendency to weave a cocoon for you to just hang in, totally suspended in an epiphenomenal bliss; watching your thoughts creep by you like my big fat Basset hound on one of these blistering August days. It's relaxing and matches anything Eno ever did. Get this in your consciousness and for christ sake get some sleep (me not you).

Off to N.C. Good Night and Good Luck

"We will kill! We will win! We will live!"

Following Nick's posts of Pantha Du Prince and Efdemin, who have released some of my favorite LPs this year, here's another from the excellent Dial Records. I uploaded this earlier and forgot about it.

Surfing the Inner 'Net

"Assuming that I am a thorough person, I must attempt to protract everything."
- Kafka

It seems like a long time since I last posted. Speaking of long times...

If history is best conceived as a longue durée and space happens in light years, then why not experience sound as a thing extended in time - and why not extend it really far into the temporal continuum? Beats me! In fact, why not stimulate the audio nerve directly by posting a smattering of songs, scattered over a lengthy chunk of time and across genres, that are loosely related by their use of drones and/or patterns sustained for long durations? Obviously these questions are purely rhetorical.

Although La Monte Young, Sunn O))), and Ricardo Villalobos are not often compared to one another, they share an affinity for protracted pieces that develop a meditative atmosphere through (more or less) subtle changes in tone, timbre, or rhythm. "Minimal" is the buzz word here - but experientially, the intense violin work of La Monte's cohort Tony Conrad has as little to do with any minimum as the tinnitus-inducing Sunn O))) performance I saw last summer (which was so loud that my incessant back pain was miraculously cured by sheer sonic force as I sprawled out in front of the nearest speaker). So-called minimalism has always been prone to excess. That said, this isn't a sampler of "minimal" music, but rather a handful of songs that complement a particular mode of perception, which might be something like the one described in La Monte's pleonasm below. At any rate, these jams sound real good to me after several days without sleep - as it turns out, the same Adderall that stimulates the booty can also cause time to become elastic. Who knew?

Yes, this state of mind is intentionally ill-defined, which is precisely why it's such a great pretext for posting anything I want. Don't worry about that - that's just how music journalism works these days. (Cf. "freak-folk," "new weird America," etc.) Just think of this as a soundtrack for the space flight to the "new Earth" - as Carl Sagan says, the journey into deep space begins for each of us in the dome-space.

"My work with continuous frequency environments led to my concept of the drone-state-of-mind. These frequency environments set up a drone state of periodic composite waveforms in the nervous system, establishing periodic patterns. These patterns are the internal representations of the external air molecule patterns, which vibrate the eardrums and send pulses throughout the nervous system. Once this so-called drone-state-of-mind is established, the mind should be able to embark on very special explorations and in new directions, because it will always have a fixed point of reference to come back to, to relate to; it could perhaps go further into more complex types of refined relationships than it can in the ordinary state."
- La Monte Young

For those of you in NYC, the very best way to experience La Monte Young's "continuous frequency environments" is to visit his sound/light installation at the Dream House in Tribeca. The rest of you are pretty much out of luck, as recordings of La Monte's music are virtually impossible to find. Here's an exception, an Indian-style raga circa the early '60s. Drone-guru-cum-midwife-of-minimalism Pandit Pran Nath might provide vocals on this track, but I haven't been able to verify this - if anyone has more information, please comment.

La Monte Young - "Raga for Ravi" [alt link]

Pelt is guitarist Jack Rose's outlet for psychotropic drone. The collective have yielded comparisons to Bardo Pond, The Dead C, and La Monte's Theatre of Eternal Music, among others. Drawing on Indian raga music, John Fahey, and various mind-altering substances, Pelt manage to cover a lot of sonic territory without sacrificing coherence. Their music morphs subliminally from Rose's masterful guitar fingerpicking to tidal noise to Eastern-tinged haze - or rather, they make sonic gumbo out of all these elements simultaneously. This song is from their 2001 album on VHF Records, Ayahuasca, which was dedicated to Fahey.

Pelt - "Raga Called John, Pt. II" [alt link]

And here are some more tracks from the VHF label. Kawabata Makoto is best known for his psychedelic guitar meltdowns with the Acid Mothers Temple collective, but his solo projects, particularly his Inui series, show that he has a soft side as well. "Son" from the first Inui disc is an extended acoustic drone piece. Also, here's a track from Æthenor, featuring members of Sunn O))) and Guapo. Their debut album Deep in Ocean Sunk the Lamp of Light is a tapestry of improvised organ, guitar, and ambient sound which, as the band members themselves have stated in interviews, sounds great when you're sleep deprived.

Kawabata Makoto - "Son" [alt link]

Æthenor - Untitled [alt link]

Describing themselves as "the AMM of punk," The Dead C are a New Zealand improv group, active since the late '80s, who specialize in overheating their tube amps with guitar fuzz and feedback. More recently, the band have reportedly begun to employ laptop processing and other electronic sounds in their work, but I haven't been able to hear any of the (presumably interesting) results yet. "Driver UFO" is from their 1991 album Harsh '70s Reality.

The Dead C -"Driver UFO" [alt link]

Vladislav Delay is one of the many pseudonyms of Finnish producer Sasu Ripatti (AKA Luomo, Uusitalo, etc.). As Vladislav Delay and Uusitalo, Sasu makes hypnagogic beatscapes and ambience for the minimal/dub crowd (the track below was released on Basic Channel's Chain Reaction label), while the Luomo alias is his outlet for spacious vocal house.

Vladislav Delay - "Huone" [alt link]

Ricardo Villalobos, of course, needs no introduction. His 40-minute colossus Fizheuer Zieheuer got plenty of hype last year, and established him as the posterboy for extremely long minimal techno tracks. In recent months, Villalobos has certainly maintained this reputation, most notably with his hypnotic remix of "Blood on My Hands" by my favorite dubstep producer, Skull Disco's Shackleton. Because this remix is presumably all over the blogosphere by now, I've included Ricardo's recent collab with Jay Haze as Social Being.

Shackleton - "Blood On My Hands (Ricardo Villalobos Apocalypso Now Mix)" [alt link]

Social Being - "Free Your Mind" [alt link]

Note: while writing this post it occurred to me that I have a pretty large stockpile of drone, improv, and the like that I could post. However, I'm not sure if it would be a good thing to inundate TRP with all of it. I mention this to gague readers' interest in such material, which will help me to decide whether I should maintain a separate blog for that sort of oddness, while still posting (mostly) music with beats here. Comments are appreciated.

That hot ass Wilcania Mob track is getting a proper release on the new M.I.A. album, definitely the hottest track on the album.

TORNADO IN BROOKLYN!

And "an angry ape on the loose." Now that's one hell of a Wednesday.

No, it's not a mixtape, its motherfucking Hyper Crush!

DJ Shoulder Bag - Get Drunk
[alt link]

Really cool DIY experimental/electronic label Melt Records comes thru with that remix heat, check their website where their entire catalog is available for free download!

Soho Dolls - Trash the Rental (Crystal Castles Remix)
[alt link]

Crystal Castles are increasingly channeling the percussive chanting of a Geinoh Yamashirogumi composition... no small accomplishment, I don't know what kind of Apple II magic these guys are summoning forth but I have not grown tired of their sound yet and am very excited for a full length> Does anyone know if one's in the works? Alice Practice was such a tease, I am very excited for Crimewave next week.

I Blog, Therefore I Am

The beat on this jam from Theo Parrish's Sound Sculptures is pure gold...

Theo Parrish - "The Rink" [alt link]

Here's one of the highlights from the latest Kompakt Total compilation - more music for the Autobahn.

Tobias Thomas & Michael Mayer - "Ueber Wiesen" [alt link]

I'm sure all four of you who downloaded Patrick Cowley's "Megatron Man" a few posts back have been itching for more, so here's his protracted "megamix" of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love."

Donna Summer - "I Feel Love (Patrick Cowley Megamix)" [alt link]

Everyone knows that Scandinavian house music rules. Norwegian producer Bjørn Torske's new album Feil Knapp eschews dancefloor excess in favor of more subtly crafted jams for home lounging - which happens to be one of my favorite pastimes.

Bjørn Torske - "God Kveld" [alt link]

I just got back to Grinnell from a nice visit home to Denver. Got to see Daft Punk at Red Rocks, which was a mixed feeling experience. The Rapture blew me away, great live performance and lots of fun energy emerging from the band. Then, SebastiAn and Kavinsky played, and either they were behind a black curtain or playing from the small ass stage on top of the venue that nobody can really see, regardless I couldnt see them and they put on a set that reminded me of every podcast and mix from anybody that reads discobelle. I was expecting to hear some crazy shit that I hadnt heard before, maybe some old disco or new French shit I was unfamiliar with, but instead it was Oizo remix this, Klaxons remix that. Then Daft Punk came on. Their setup was off the charts, that pyramid deal is fucking crazy, but the music was eh. I mean, it was good ass Daft Punk, but it was all very familiar Daft Punk. Sure, they mashed up some of their own stuff, but it would've been nice to not know exactly what was coming next. Overall, a good time, but the ravers with their fucking glow sticks really started to get at me, for fucks sake, how long can you allow someone to rave their shit 3 inches in front of your face?! I did enjoy watching the heterosexual ecstasy infused backrubs all the guys were giving each other.

Prescriptionz

Here's a handful of jams that I've played frequently, and somewhat obsessively, during the past year or so. Jürgen Paape's "Mit Dir" and Michael Rother's "Karussell" both qualify for this list, but Nick already posted them here and here.

Firstly, we've got some interstellar disco from Donna Summer's producer, Giorgio Moroder. There's a Todd Terje edit of this song circulating around the blogosphere - seek and ye shall find - but I prefer the original.

Giorgio Moroder - "Utopia" [alt link]

This italo disco jam from Boney M, featuring a chorus of schoolchildren, is a real guilty pleasure - be sure to scope out the absurd video here.

Boney M - "Happy Song" [alt link]

This disco-rap crossover was one of the first internationally successful 'rap' songs. Lots of rhymes about geography and dancing... this one also comes with a complementary video.

Joe Bataan - "Rap-O Clap-O" [alt link]

Tadd Mullinix has a lot of material under a lot of names - Dabrye, etc. The James T. Cotton alias is his outlet for raw techno and house. I'm sure this isn't big news for most of you, so here's the linkz. This is some truly warped techno music.

James T. Cotton - "We Still Expect Freedom" [alt link]

Next up, a sentimental pop ballad by the same folks who sandblasted your eardrums as Throbbing Gristle and a musical ray of sunshine from one half of the rabble-rousing no-wave group Suicide.

Psychic TV - "Godstar" [alt link]
Martin Rev - "Mari" [alt link]

This joint from mysterious noisemakers Zoviet France employs a subaquatic pulse and muffled ambient tones to hypnotic effect, while the spaced-out vocalist weaves his half-utterances through the mix. Great after-hours material with a strangely dubby vibe.

Zoviet France - "Mohnomishe 6" [alt link]

Last, but certainly not least, here's one of my favorite songs by the Japanese noise-rock band Ruins. The drummer, Tatsuya Yoshida, has a distinctive style consisting of extremely complex rhythms, played at breakneck speeds, yet with meticulous precision. In the midst of this percussive maelstrom, Yoshida supplies vocals in a made-up language à la Christian Vander's prog juggernaut Magma.

Ruins - "Praha in Spring" [alt link]
