Salutations! The last few weeks have been all about packing, moving back to college, and getting my academics on, not to mention kicking it at The Silent Barn with Count Drugula - but I'm back to blogging.

The techno-dubsteb nexus has produced one of this year's best songs (the Villalobos "Apocalypto" remix of Shackleton's "Blood on My Hands"), and producer Andy Stott has been blurring the boundaries between the two genres lately. Stott was the sole tecnho artist on last year's Warrior Dubz compilation by the BBC's Mary Anne Hobbs, and he's been relentlessly dropping 12-inches on Boomkat's Modern Love label for several years. Here's the B-side from one of his recent 12" releases...

While Stott bridges the gap between techno and dubstep, groups like Excepter and Black Dice are blending techno and noise with lysergic results. Black Dice are preparing to release Load Blown, the follow-up to 2005's excellent Broken Ear Record, which found the group throwing down the occasional 4/4 under their mesmerizing soundscapes. The new album picks up where Broken Ear left off, which can only be a good thing. Black Dice member Eric Copeland has also just dropped a solo album, Hermaphrodite, consisting of a dozen pop-length songs that feature processed vocals and hazy melodies which are at once catchy and difficult to recognize.
