Fuck the World and Have a Coke

For the past three days, excavating at levels up to 10cm deep, I have been mining mind crystals. And what a fruitful harvest it will be! But the labor came at the cost of knowledge; knowledge that my beloved Growing have been knee deep in geodes, endlessly cracking open specimens and hulling a polychrome gradient of guts with which to assemble their new crystal palace of an album: VISION SWIM.
\
Last year's Color Wheel turned a snowballing intrigue into an avalanche of mind-crystalizing adoration as the Growing totally shattered any preconception or precendent of what two dudes playing electric guitars could do (and yes, I do know who Keith Rowe is and I likes him much). Maybe I should be more specific; Color Wheel, for me at least, marked a significant rupture within the general stoner rock subset, one that will likely find more of an audience for fans of Ash Ra Tempel and Fennesz or Tim Hecker. Earth they are not, but I their impact is as significant. Where Earth totally reworked stoner metal and ambient music into a glorious new concoction of Ultimate Death Musick (next time you're feeling morbid, try out Extra-Capsular Extraction), Growing have synthesized the patience and depth of drone music with an erratic yet soothing edge that is unlike anything I've ever heard on a guitar. Now they have bounce in their step, placing them somewhere in between Eliane Radigue and Battles (but in played another dimension, of course), as evidenced in "Onanon."

So download the new track "Onanon" in addition to these other gems and then go and give Growing all your money.

Now, in my time in the mind fields, I was not unaware of the upcoming Moebius/Plank reissues of Zero Set and Rastakraut Pasta and boyohboi do I love them so. Here's a gem off each one.

Here's another real thing, Le Dust Sucker. Listening to these maniacs' output makes me think Fuck Ed Banger (though that Oizo track down below is pretty fly--note the correction), Fuck Blog House, Fuck the eternal quest for 'Aft-Daft', cuz it was here, baby, but nobody gave it the minerals and proper conversation and it withered away until it was ground up into a powder and blown into Discogs neverland. I mean, fuck the aforementioned fucks regardless, but I've been seen the Sucker and it is right and everyone is wrong. That's kind of what this song is about, y'know? It's off their 2001 Lick Lick ep and it's the sonic equivalent of replacing your middle finger with a prosthetic made out of those delicious Haribo sour coke bottles.
