NOW WITH LESS/MORE TAXONOMIZING!

Its great to see hilarious internet label-whoring like this, "Blog House," which according to Wikipedia (thanx hometaping), is a new genre of music coming out of Europe, mostly France, which is defined by having been posted on big blogs. No shit? Whatever happened to calling a spade a fucking spade guys? Should bloggers really feel the need to use themselves in defining the music they up? Because I'm pretty sure we're just talking about French electro, which these days I like to refer to as "AfterDaft," so long as we're all gonna whip out our dicks and start classifying our neighbor's asshole.

more Malka here. Anyway, TRP likes Yuksek, but we don't really count, do we being but a blip on the evermore taxonomized music blogosphere (right, Q magazine?) On that note, lets not matter in the most cosmic way I can imagine.... MANDRE!!!


Mandre - Light Years (Opus IV) [alt link]

Drugula and I caught whiff of this fire last week on Dublab courtesy of Lovefingers and company. Mandre was the alter ego of a guy who cut three lps of turbodrive space funk for Motown in the late 70s all while wearing a robot helmet to conceal his identity (sound familiar>), a guy named Andre Lewis who grew up in Omaha, later forming a group with Lester Abrams, touring with The Who and Earth Wind and Fire, and recording with Frank Zappa, Huey Lewis, the New Riders of the Purple Sage.

Opus IV is a Revelation X kind of track, a careening disco symphony with some definite wings, which soars thru the cosmos in a polished delorean chorus only to capitulate to the bliss of cosmic jazz-funk then rise once again, which it does in a wave of the cleanest midnight space. With a whisper of paranoia icing the cake. Yeah, I love this song. Highly recommended for all fans of spaced out funk, disco, house roots etc.
