06 you might have missed

Well, here we are kids. 2007. How many drunk people told you last night that this was going to be the best year of their lives? Because, you know, 06 SUCKED. Well, 06 was OK by me. I went to Japan, listened to good sound, started writing again, and went off Prozac. Good year, IMO.

Now, I hate lists. I mean, I don't even read them masochistically anymore, I just dont read them for trillz. Whatever. This isn't a list, its a collection. A few great tunes from 06 that you might have missed, or maybe you didn't. The point is, I shouldn't have to upload my love, justice or young folks, youve already heard the shit. So, maybe you HAVE been rocking it out to these jamz in yr undies every night after supper since July. But hopefully everyone can find something new here, because this is my only new years kiss, from the lips of Surrender straight to yr (inter)face.

In no order.

Grabba Grabba Tape - Dr. Groxtronic And Lil Kül Lol

Damn. This vocoder masterpiece is the soundtrack to my wet dreams where I put my dick in analog circuits. GGT are that real punk electro coming straight from Madrid. These guys are the shit, check out their myspace for more hyper vox Spanish dance madness. And wtf, have another one, also off their debut Kurt Kobaya Y G.R.O.X. Man Odia Nirvana. Yeah, like that!
Grabba Grabba Tape - Jaaj Jaaj: Juanlumigas En Los Ojos

Professor Murder - Champions

A techno producer meets one former member of Don Caballero; could perfection not result? The answer is no. Champions is one of the best post-punk songs I heard in 06 because it doesn't sound like other shit. Alll 5 tracks on their debut ep Rides The Subway are sublimely funky old school new live soundz, and it is one of the releases of the year IMO. Plus, like GGT, PMurder are a fucking band, which has become very respectable in this author's eyes.
also Professor Murder - Free Stress Test (Caps & Jones edit)
play that shit at any party, ANY damn party, and watch

Crystal Castles - Alice Practice
Yeah, you've heard Crystal Castle's Klaxons remix, and you should keep playing it because its very very good. But lets delve further into the world of Toronto's Crystal Castles, the thrashiest bastards working in dance right now. This is 8-bit at its best, emotive and booty grinding, its digital rape music for my disaster. Have another dose:
Crystal Castles - She Fell Out

Fred Falke - Wait For Love
1/2 of the spectacular duo of Alan Braxe/Fred Falke, my man FF has in 06 emerged as anything but the lesser half. His Omega Man 7" for France's Work It Baby is easily one of the standout singles of the year. This track, the B-side to the vinyl, is really something to be heard for any fans of French electro, Daft Punk, Alan Braxe, and so on. A must have.
Also check out Hot Chip - Colours (Fred Falke Mix)

Well, I don't want to overload yr headz. BUT, there's still a bone in need of picking here.
Max Tundra - What Time Is Love?
Now, I'm no huge Tundra fan, but this IS the track of the year. There, I said it. A KLF cover he supposedly recorded in 1989, this is no. M in Tomlab's very nice alphabet 12" series. Furthermore, it is the most unrelenting song I've heard from Tundra, a shameless homage to big beat rave and that early 90's UK ecstasy sound, the amazing thing about this song (and me and Ct. Drugula have spent many a klonopinned night discussing this) is how- unlike practically every other Tundra track- it never ONCE turns into a joke. This is serious, this IS dancing, this is EVERYTHING music should be. This is the soundtrack to the Sega Genesis version of NHL 96 on acid. Bless you Tomlab, bless you Tundra, this baby made my 06. Take care kiddies, and bliss it out this year. Do it for Surrender.

Peace, love, and happy 07, BIATCHES!
