Like Hitchcock, Only Creepier!

I've been using the word "hellscape" a lot lately. Who knows the reason, but I know I've been listening to a lot of silly music and have been working really hard at not being a tardface anymore. Michael Haneke and Fassbinder are great. I sleep a lot.

First up is the recently reissued Joan of Arc by Tony Conrad, originally edited down to fit Ira Cohen's 11 minute film (WRONG! REMIX! Actually, it was a Piero Heliczer movie--thanks Will!, wherever you are...) of the same name but now standing tall in its hour-length glory. Been listening to this A LOT>

Tony Conrad-Joan of Arc

In the same vein (and in a totally separate one) is more by our boy Reinhard Voigt (can we post anymore? yes!) at his W-47, oily and anti-humanist best. Pentax was his vehicle to fully annihilate concepts like "minimal", "techno", "noise", and many other popular genre titles and truly unleash his fury. It's some really nasty shit and I've been looking for the words to describe it for months, but let's leave it to KFW at Forced Exposure to lay down some thinkin':
"Scarily accurate rendering of contemporary anti-utopia by Reinhard Voigt (aka Sweet Reinhard, etc...). Extremely damaged post-post dancefloor militancy, devoid of ANY pleasure-inducing elements save for the harsh, foreboding THUD of crisp 808 kicks sampled & filtered 10x over. Babelfish says (of Pentax): 'and anti-No. andantino cuts itself a piece of sausage of the finger and feeds thereby its turteltauben dog if the turteltauben dog from birth without hearing is, takes it feeds gratefully against otherwise possibly remembers it at their sight a phonograph record this incommodity can andantino and its turteltauben dog, if this was accustomed to the playplay play, thus save that it inverts the turteltauben dog before feeding the huendische turteltaube is with grains to feed from serious jandl.'" -- Hrvatski.

And to finish us off on the tip of the void is my fave, Daedelus. Boy's been turning out ill shit for years (I've been hearting his ass since Invention--I wish I had an external so I could upload "Experience" right now) and this is a dynamite cherry on top of his most recent offering, Daedelus Denies the Daylight. The aptly named "Remix of Nothing" off 2006's Throw A Fit EP. Silly shit

Hi - I think that Joan of Arc is a Piero Heliczer film, not an Ira Cohen film. The artwork on this album features special portraits of Tony Conrad from The Invasion of Thunderbolt Pagoda - http://www.arthurmag.com/store/dvds.php
